What Are Real-World Assets (RWAs) in Crypto? The Complete Guide

Real-world assets — "RWAs" — are off-chain assets like precious metals, government bonds, real estate, or cash equivalents that are represented on a blockchain as tokens. RWA crypto is the fast-growing category that brings these traditional assets on-chain, where they can be owned, transferred, and put to work with the speed and transparency of DeFi.

Why RWAs matter

Most of the world's value sits in assets that are slow and expensive to move: metals in vaults, bonds on legacy settlement rails, property behind paperwork. Tokenizing them keeps the underlying value while giving it blockchain superpowers:

  • Instant, global settlement instead of days and intermediaries.
  • Fractional ownership — own a gram of gold or a sliver of a bond.
  • Transparency — reserves and ownership are verifiable on-chain.
  • Composability — a tokenized asset can plug directly into lending, trading, and yield strategies.

The result is traditional stability (gold, dollars, bonds) combined with on-chain productivity — the core promise of RWA crypto.

How tokenizing a real-world asset works

The pattern is consistent across asset types:

  1. A custodian holds the physical or off-chain asset (bullion in a vault, cash in a bank, bonds with a trustee).
  2. A matching amount of tokens is issued on-chain, each representing a fixed claim on the asset.
  3. Smart contracts and audits enforce and verify the one-to-one backing.
  4. The token trades and moves freely, while the underlying asset stays secured.

The token is only as trustworthy as the custody and auditing behind it — which is why reputable RWA issuers publish regular attestations.

RWAs on STRATO

STRATO is built around real-world assets. Its RWA tokens include:

  • Tokenized gold (GOLDST) and tokenized silver (SILVST) — each backed 1:1 by physical metal stored with BA Gold Enterprises Inc. in New York City, fully insured and audited monthly. See the latest precious-metals audit.
  • USDST, a dollar-pegged stablecoin that anchors on-chain dollar value and yield.

What sets STRATO apart is that these assets don't just sit still. RWA tokens are paired against USDST in on-chain markets, and you can deposit them into a vault where an autonomous bot generates yield through arbitrage — returns accrue as the vault's value rises, with no lockup. The full mechanics are in how the trading bot generates yield.

The trade-offs

RWAs carry the price risk of their underlying asset — tokenized gold falls when gold falls. They also depend on the integrity of the custodian and issuer, and on-chain strategies add smart-contract risk. Tokenization removes friction; it doesn't remove market or counterparty risk.

Getting started

  1. Open the STRATO app.
  2. Acquire an RWA token — GOLDST, SILVST, or USDST.
  3. Optionally deposit into a vault to earn yield.

RWA crypto is how traditional value finally becomes liquid, divisible, and productive — and STRATO is where you can actually use it.
